Foresight has developed a groundbreaking solution to address the primary challenge in stereo vision—achieving an accurate depth map. Utilizing a dedicated algorithm, Foresight's automatic calibration technique enables precise relative pose estimation, which is crucial for generating a precise stereoscopic 3D perception. This innovative approach to automatic calibration ensures that long-wave infrared (LWIR) systems and visible spectrum (VIS) cameras can achieve unparalleled accuracy and reliability in depth perception, paving the way for more advanced applications in stereo vision technology.

Foresight's technology generates an accurate depth map which is converted to a high-resolution 3D point cloud that provides rich and accurate per-pixel information in both VIS and LWIR. A point cloud provides 3D raw data that can be used for obstacle detection, terrain analysis, and autonomous vehicle sensor fusion. The use of stereoscopic technology offers a non-emitting and cost-effective solution for generating a high-resolution point cloud.

Dual spectrum visual RGB and thermal long-wave infrared (LWIR) cameras. Visual cameras provide the ability to see at longer ranges and provide color information while LWIR cameras rely on heat emission of different objects. LWIR enables detection in harsh weather and conditions. In addition, LWIR enables inherent detection of pedestrians and animals by capturing their thermal signatures. The combination of the two spectrums leads to exceptionally high obstacle detection rate with near zero false alerts even through adverse weather conditions regardless of the size of the obstacle.
